Expenses on treatment of former CM Lalu Prasad will be borne by Bihar government, says Nitish Kumar

PATNA: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Wednesday said expenses on treatment of former CM and RJD president Lalu Prasad would be borne by the state government.

Responding to a media query about the treatment of ailing Lalu on the state government’s expenditure, Nitish said, "Rules have already been framed in this regard. Everything will be done by the state government."

Nitish was talking to reporters after visiting ailing Lalu at the Intensive care unit (ICU) of a private hospital in Rajabazar area of the state capital.

Recalling his old association with the RJD president, Nitish said, "I had cordial relationship with Lalu Ji since our young age."

The CM further said as soon as he received information about the sickness of Lalu, he inquired about his health. "As his situation deteriorated, he was admitted to the Paras hospital. I again inquired about his health soon after he was admitted at this hospital. Today, I have come here to meet him and inquire about his health," Nitish told media persons.

Nitish also said, "There seems to be some improvement in Laluji’s condition compared to the day he was admitted at the hospital. However, he is being taken to Delhi for better treatment. I pray to God for his speedy recovery. We wish Lalu Ji recovers at the earliest."

The RJD chief has been admitted at the hospital since Monday, a day after he had a fall at his home and fractured his shoulder.

The CM also spoke to the team of doctors attending to the ailing RJD boss and inquired about his health condition from the doctors.

Nitish also spoke to former CM and Lalu’s wife Rabri Devi, Lalu’s both sons Tej Pratap Yadav and Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and his elder daughter and Rajya Sabha member Misa Bharti and discussed issues related to the RJD chief’s health.

Talking to reporters, Tejashwi said, "The CM has been in touch ever since my father's health deteriorated. Yesterday, I received a call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, besides Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her daughter Priyanka Gandhi. They all inquired about the RJD chief’s health."
