Expecting mums bumped up jab priority list

Pregnant women have been moved up the priority chain for receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. (AAP)

Pregnant women have been bumped up the priority list for Pfizer vaccines.

Australia's expert medical advisory group has told a Senate committee pregnant women are now included in phase 1B of the vaccine rollout.

"There have now been quite large studies that have looked at the safety of COVID vaccines in pregnancy, as well as further data about the risks of COVID to pregnant women," ATAGI co-chair Allen Cheng said on Friday.

"That risk benefit is now more clearly on the side of getting pregnant women vaccinated. So pregnant women are now in phase 1B."

The committee was also told a bulletin explaining the inclusion of pregnant women in the phase had been sent out to general practitioners.

Pregnant women were already recommended for and eligible to get the Pfizer jab.
