Expected Tottenham team vs Newcastle: Pochettino to bring one star back but not two others

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has plenty of options now to choose from for the visit of Newcastle United in the Premier League.

In the attacking midfield slots the Spurs boss has choices to make with Son Heung-min back from suspension, Dele Alli back in full training this week, Giovani Lo Celso's fitness slowly building and calls for Lucas Moura to return to the starting line-up after his equaliser at Manchester City.

Erik Lamela bagged a goal and an assist at the Etihad Stadium while Christian Eriksen is likely to make back-to-back starts in a Spurs shirt despite speculation surrounding his future.

Pochettino admitted on Friday that the plan with Son was to have him in the perfect condition to face Newcastle when his ban ended and added that the South Korean star had been 'unbelievable' in training, the place where the Argentine makes his decisions about match involvement.

Tanguy Ndombele misses out with a minor thing injury picked up in training this week while Ryan Sessegnon and Juan Foyth are continuing their injury rehabilitation.

Then there is the central defensive situation with Jan Vertonghen yet to register any minutes in the Premier League in the first two games of the season with Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld preferred.

Pochettino could even decide to give Ben Davies a run out at left-back after the Welshman, who signed a new contract this summer, returned to the squad last week after his summer surgery.

It's also worth noting that 17-year-old striker Troy Parrott recovered from an injury last week after scoring twice for Spurs' U23s at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and has been training as usual with the first team this week. He was not included in the U23s' match on Friday against Derby.

Whether he manages to find himself on the bench against Newcastle could well depend on whether Alli is passed fit for the game. If he is then Parrott will likely be the 19th man, travelling with the squad in case of illness or injury on the day.

Here's how we reckon Spurs will line up against Newcastle:

(4-4-2 diamond) Lloris; Walker-Peters, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Rose; Winks, Sissoko, Eriksen, Lamela; Son, Kane.
