Expected Spurs team vs Colchester: Pochettino to make nine changes as Tottenham eye cup progress

It's another quick turn around for Tottenham Hotspur as they are in Carabao Cup action on Tuesday night.

Spurs travel to League Two side Colchester United in the third round of the tournament. Mauricio Pochettino side will be looking to shake off the away day blues as they aim to make it to the next round.

Tottenham have lost leads in their last three away matches, losing 2-1 against Leicester City in their last Premier League game, after Harry Kane had given them a 1-0 advantage going into half time.

With such a short turnaround between games, Tottenham are expected to make changes for the game in order to rest players and it may be a chance for Pochettino to bed in some young talent making their way through the system at Hotspur way.

The Spurs manager has admitted that the team will be a mix, and it may be the perfect opportunity to throw young striker Troy Parrott into the team. The 17-year-old has impressed in the youth teams and on the international stage. He travelled to Leicester with the first team, and it is unlikely that Pochettino will risk starting Harry Kane.

Hugo Lloris is likely to be given more time off following the birth of his child, meaning that Paulo Gazzaniga will retain his place between the posts.

Eric Dier has also struggled for game time this season and this will be the perfect opportunity to give him a run out alongside midfielder Oliver Skipp.

Dele Alli was one of the players who didn't even travel to Leicester at the weekend, so it is likely that he will be selected in order to build up game time following his return from injury, while Christian Eriksen didn't get long on the pitch at the King Power Stadium.

Toby Alderweireld could be one of the few players to retain his place, adding experience into the team.

Here's the team we think could start against Colchester:

(4-2-3-1) Gazzaniga; Walker-Peters, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Davies; Dier, Skipp; Moura, Alli, Eriksen; Parrott
