Expected Bristol Rovers team to play Charlton Athletic with Oztumer among players ruled out

Bristol Rovers boss Paul Tisdale hopes two cup defeats in a week will not derail Bristol Rovers' momentum in League One, but he will be without several key players against Charlton Athletic.

Both sides will be without key players at the Mem on Saturday, with Andrew Shinnie and Marcus Maddison expected to miss out for the Addicks with injury, while senior figures Jason Pearce and Darren Pratley are suspended.

The Gas have injury and suspension worries of their own, as they vie to pick up their fourth league win in their past five games.

With all that in mind, here is the expected team for Saturday's game.

Defence

Two games and two defeats to start Joe Day's time at Bristol Rovers, but the goalkeeper – on loan from Cardiff City – has impressed in both outings and he will keep the gloves on Saturday. Jordi van Stappershoef will provide cover from the bench.

The back four in front will be changed, however, with Max Ehmer suspended after accumulating five yellow cards in the league. The skipper has been playing at right-back, and Mark Little and Josh Hare are the options to come in.

The pair are both experienced but offer different traits. Should Tisdale want a superior pure defender, Little is likely to get the nod, but the quality of Hare's delivery gives the manager a real quandary, particularly with Rovers set to play two traditional strikers up top.

Ultimately, Tisdale has always taken the more experienced option when presented with a 50/50 call, so Little could just shade it.

The remainder of the back four will be unchanged with Alfie Kilgour and Jack Baldwin at centre-half and Luke Leahy on the left.

Cian Harries, Michael Kelly, Ali Koiki and David Tutonda are options for the bench.

Midfield

Tisdale's availability concerns continue in midfield with Erhun Oztumer, who is on a season-long loan and is ineligible to play against his parent club.

Regardless, Tisdale is likely to continue with his narrow midfield diamond, with Ed Upson beating Abu Ogogo to the holding role.

The number eights will be Zain Westbrooke and Josh Grant, with Luke McCormick occupying the number 10 spot.

Ogogo, Cameron Hargreaves, Josh Barrett and Alex Rodman are likely to feature amongst the substitutes.

Attack

Sam Nicholson is a doubt once again with a hip injury, while James Daly remains on the treatment table with an ankle issue, limiting Tisdale's options to start up top.

Brandon Hanlan and Jonah Ayunga are the only fit recognised strikers in the group, and the duo are certain to start together on Saturday. Tisdale will hope both – blessed with strength and speed – can cause the Charlton defence plenty of problems.

Zain Walker impressed off the bench against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, and deserves a place as a substitute.

Rovers (4-3-1-2): Day; Little, Kilgour, Baldwin, Leahy; Upson, Grant, Westbrooke; McCormick; Hanlan, Ayunga.
