Expectations high for Seahawks’ rookies this year

The Seattle Seahawks have high expectations for all their players and this year’s rookies are no different. Between the 11-member draft class and undrafted free agents, the pressure is on to perform.

And coach Pete Carroll is confident his rookies know it.

“Well, I hope so. I hope they are feeling the pressure because they’re going to get a great opportunity,” Carroll said following the first practice of training camp. “Coming to us, we don’t bring them in here to back guys up. We bring them in here to see what they can do to help us play, win, do things on gameday. These guys are going to get thrown to the front. They’re going to get great opportunity and they need to be ready for it.

“Sometimes feeling that pressure, that anticipation helps you get ready.”

With injuries to veteran players and others lost this offseason to trades or free agency, some rookies could hear their numbers called sooner than later. Carroll wants to ensure they are ready.

“Yeah, it’s a good group. Eleven guys plus the free agents that we’ve had,” Carroll continued. “It’s a big, competitive group that looked like they fit the role. We’ll just have to see what happens. That’s what is so fun about this camp. We just get it going.”

The Seahawks veterans – and rookies – have an off day Saturday but resume practice Sunday morning.
