Expect the Dolphins to be highly active in post-cuts signings

There’s a very popular saying that should be remembered this weekend as the Dolphins finalize their roster for the start of the 2019 regular season.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

In the case of the Miami Dolphins, every single cut of each of the 31 other NFL franchises should be monitored. Depth is a problem for Miami’s roster in a lot of areas — and some of the teams around the league with a surplus are almost certainly letting roster worthy players walk today.

Why would they choose Miami? That’s the luxury of the Dolphins’ position as a roster at this point in time — Miami can offer recently cut players something almost no other team can.

Opportunity.

The Dolphins are a team that is only married to a select few players as a part of their vision. And because the depth is a notable flaw on this Dolphins’ team, recently cut players can come to Miami and get considerable snaps this season. That benefits them in two ways relative to playing elsewhere: first and foremost, they get to play this year. That’s great. But a contract with the Dolphins also sets players up for future success — adding more game film to the resume will help provide longevity to NFL careers that may otherwise get lost in the shuffle.

And so look for the Dolphins to churn through the cuts in search of developmental targets along the offensive line and at cornerback. If Miami can find a solid contributor or two along the way, consider it a win.
