Expat 'made' to apologise

Yan Marchal sings his own version of the regime's theme song 'Kheun Kwam Suk Hai Prathet Thai' (Returning Happiness to Thailand). Yan Marchal Facebook Account

Yan Marchal, a French expat, has claimed that he was "made" to apologise for making a sarcastic video clip against the regime after he received a visit from police at his home.

The video in question features a man -- Yan Marchal -- singing the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO)'s theme song Kheun Kwam Suk Hai Prathet Thai (Returning Happiness to Thailand).

The clip -- posted on Mr Marchal's Facebook -- made fun of the song. Original lyrics such as "We will do as promised. We won't have to wait very long" were changed to "We won't keep the promise. We need more time".

After the clip was posted, Mr Marchal wrote on Wednesday that he was made to apologise for the post. The man showed a document which he said the two policemen had made him sign after giving him a visit.

The document says that he apologised and accepted that the content was inappropriate. "That clip made more people laugh than it made angry, but it still made a few people angry, and I derive no pleasure from that. My satisfaction is rather in being funny which is harder to achieve when people get inflamed."
