Expanded Downtown Sound free summer concert lineup announced

April 29--Downtown Sound, the free summer music series at Millennium Park, has expanded to 16 nights. The concerts, previously held on Monday nights, picked up an additional six nights and expanded their artistic range to include world music, and the electronic sounds that were formerly under the aegis of Loops and Variations. The series runs June 1-July 23.

A highlight for local music fans will be the June 29 appearance of Poi Dog Pondering, the Frank Orrall collective. And on July 13, pop-rocker Matthew Sweet visits town.

The full lineup is listed below:

June 1: San Fermin/So Percussion

June 4: The Very Best/Glass Lux

June 8: Andrew Belle/Birds of Chicago

June 11: The London Souls/Eggnoise

June 15: Mighty Diamonds/Charley Organaire

June 18: Hayes Carll/Mother Falcon

June 22: Active Child/Matt Ulery's In the Ivory

June 25: Snarky Puppy/Third Coast Percussion Friends Celebrate Terry Riley's In C

June 29: Poi Dog Pondering/Caroline Smith

July 2: Antibalas/Sonny Knight the Lakers

July 6: King Sunny Ade/Matthew Tembo

July 9: (8 PM start) Judah the Lion

July 13: Matthew Sweet/In Tall Buildings

July 16: Ondatr󰩣a/Helado Negro

July 20: Murder by Death/Banditos

July 23: Los Cojolites/David Wax Museum
