Bangsai Arts and Crafts Centre in Ayutthaya is hosting the "Silk From Four Isaan Provinces" festival from Friday until Sunday.
Held in collaboration with the Support Foundation of HM Queen Sirikit, the festival will bring a variety of fine fabrics hand-woven by local villagers from the four northeastern provinces of Roi-Et, Maha Sarakhram, Kalasin and Khon Kaen.
The highlight will be a fashion show featuring costumes made from silk, cotton and other Thai fabrics created by leading designers behind the elegant outfits seen in many lakorn. It will be held on Friday at 2.30pm and again on Saturday at 1pm. Prominent figures from the four provinces will become honorary models to present the costumes on the catwalk on both days.
There will be more than 200 booths offering a wide range of Otop and other outstanding products from the four provinces, daily, 9am-5pm, and shoppers will be able to experience various Isan cultural performances, such as pong lang (log-xylophone) dance, kaen (reed-mouth-organ) music and bamboo-pan-flute music.
This is also an opportunity to shop for quality craft products created by artisans at the crafts centre at attractive prices and indulge in Ayutthaya's famous dishes and other local delicacies served by the province's leading restaurants.
Workshops will be conducted daily, 11am-2pm. Participants will learn to make and paint court dolls, make boxes from sa paper, potpourri and fabric key rings, and fold handkerchiefs into fancy creations.
The festival is part of the crafts centre's bi-annual "Celebration Of Thousand Arms Guanyin Bodhisattva". This is the second time of the year that Thais of Chinese descent and other interested people who believe in the Chinese goddess can participate in the worshipping and praying ceremonies to be held on Sunday.
