Exit poll predicts Liberal Democrats leader Jo Swinson will lose seat to SNP

The General Election exit poll predicts that the leader of the Liberal Democrats could lose her seat in the Houses of Parliament.

Jo Swinson, who became the party leader in July this year, will lose her seat to the Scottish National Party (SNP) if the poll turns out to be correct.

She has served as the MP for Dunbartonshire East in Scotland for since 2017, and also held the seat between 2005 and 2015.

But tonight's exit poll says there is 95 per cent chance that the Liberal Democrat leader will lose her seat to the SNP's Amy Callaghan.

The exit poll has predicted a good night for the SNP who look set to take 55 seats out of a total of 59 in Scotland, which would be their second best ever result.

Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats, who looked to be struggling to gain support throughout the campaign, look set to take just 13 seats.

The party had promised to revoke Article 50, offer free childcare and tax frequent flyers in its election manifesto.

Speaking earlier in the night, one Liberal Democrat agent said it was "too early to tell" if Ms Swinson would be able to hold onto her seat.
