Exeter murder: Family mourn ‘kind and generous’ grandmother killed in park attack

The family of a grandmother who was killed in a brutal assault as she walked through her local park have paid tribute to her “zest for life” as a man awaits trial accused of her murder.

Lorna England, 74, was found suffering stab wounds in Ludwell Valley Park in Exeter on Saturday at 4pm.

Ms England died at the scene despite attempts by members of the public and paramedics to save her.

Her death prompted mass grief in the local area with neighbours describing her as a “pillar of the tight-knit community”.

In a statement released through Devon and Cornwall Police on Wednesday, her heartbroken family paid tribute to the “kind, generous and beautiful lady”.

They wrote: “On Saturday, our beloved wife, mum, grandma and sister, Lorna England was tragically and suddenly taken away from us.

“Lorna was the kindest, most generous and beautiful loving lady. Her energy and zest for life was infectious. As a family we are heartbroken by her death.

“No words can describe the loss and impact. She meant the world to us. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the support, kind words and sympathy we have received.”

The family have asked for privacy as they grieve and come to terms with their loss.

Cameron Davis, aged 30 of Exeter Road, Exmouth, has been charged with murder.

He is being held in remand and a trial date has been set for August 2023.

During a press conference on Sunday, Devon and Cornwall Police said no motive or cause of death has yet been revealed and the murder investigation continues.

The force added they were “currently not looking for anyone else in connection to this offence”.
