Bikie's 'cold-blooded killing' one of two local shooting deaths under investigation

Shane De Britt, president of the Bandidos' Central West chapter, was slain at his farmhouse in January.

New South Wales Police have revealed a senior member of the Bandidos bikie gang was shot dead in an execution-style murder while he slept.

Warning: The following story contains an image of a deceased Indigenous person.

Shane De Britt, the president of the local Central West chapter of the gang, was slain in his farmhouse at Eurimbla, near Wellington, in January.

"A man was shot dead in his own home in the middle of the night, so I would classify it as an execution, " Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

"It was a cold-blooded killing."

Strike Force Kerrison is now investigating Mr De Britt's death and looking into outlaw gang activity in the area.

"We are looking at the OMCG links, but we are still keeping an open mind about other motives as well," Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

Police are seeking dash cam vision from any vehicles that may have been travelling between Wellington and Orange on the Mitchell Highway or Burrendong Way on Tuesday January 14 between 12:00am and 4:00am.

"To date we haven't received any information about how they got there, whoever committed the offence," Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

"We think they are ways [routes] that would have been used by whoever committed the murder, so I think that's important."

Daytime shooting of Wellington man

Police are also appealing for information into the shooting death of 48-year-old Wellington local Frank Smith.

He died in April at Wellington Base Hospital after presenting with a gunshot wound to his stomach in April.

"Initial inquiries into Mr Smith's death have revealed that a member of the public saw him collapse in the front yard of a home on Thornton Street, Wellington, about 10:00am on Monday April 27," Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

"This good Samaritan has driven Mr Smith, who was in a critical condition, to Wellington Base Hospital where he later died."

The State Crime Command's Homicide Squad has also taken over that case under Strike Force Libani.

It is understood Mr De Britt and Mr Smith's murders are unrelated.

"There doesn't appear to be any links at all. There's no evidence to suggest that either the shooting of Shane De Britt and Frank Smith are connected in any way," Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

"They are two separate shootings. That's how we are investigating it."

Police are asking anyone with information on either case to call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
