“Can he build it? Yes he can.” Bob the Builder returns to screens next month with a slightly tweaked tagline and an overhauled look, and we have an exclusive first peek at the trailer.

Bob The Builder: exclusive first trailer

The kids’ TV favourite has been revived by toy manufacturer Mattel and will appear on Channel 5’s Milkshake! strand. Harry Potter and Inspector George Gently star Lee Ingleby will voice the titular construction worker, with Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey) and Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners) also among the voice cast.

Bob first aired on BBC in 1999. The show proved hugely popular, airing in over 30 countries, and has been translated into Slovenian, Hebrew and Hindi, among other languages. The new version replaces the original’s stop-motion animation with CGI, and Bob’s dungarees and button eyes have been replaced with a hi-vis jacket and a more youthful look.

Bob the Builder airs 7.20am, 1 September, Channel 5.
