Exclusive: Tottenham Hotspur make transfer decision on Marcus Edwards

Marcus Edwards appears to be on his way out of Tottenham

The youngster has been out of the spotlight for some time, with an unsuccessful loan spell with Norwich at the end of the 2017/18 campaign followed by a more successful one at Dutch Eredivisie side Excelsior last year.

Things have not been the same for the 20-year-old since Mauricio Pochettino dubbed him "mini Messi" after a League Cup outing for Spurs in 2016.

Pochettino admitted: "I made a mistake you know very well a few years ago and I'm not happy with that situation.

"I think I am a person who tries to learn from my mistakes in trying to put some names in the spotlight and instead of helping we put perhaps too much pressure on them."

Edwards was not named in the Tottenham squad for the pre-season tour of Singapore and China on Wednesday, with the likes of Troy Parrott, Jack Roles, Brooklyn Lyons-Forster and Jamie Bowden included.

And football.london understands that Edwards is in training with another club, trying to earn a move away from N17.

football.london understands that the 20-year-old forward is in pre-season training with Brentford as he attempts to earn a deal with the Championship club.

It is unknown whether it would be a permanent move or another loan deal, but with Edwards in the final year of his contract at Spurs, it would seem logical that if his trial with the west Londoners was successful he would move there permanently.

The 20-year-old joins first team regulars Kieran Trippier and Danny Rose as likely to leave the club this summer, with Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou also up for sale ans Pochettino tries to shape his squad for an assault on the Premier League title.
