Exclusive: Mateusz Klich and Luke Ayling expected to sign new Leeds United contracts imminently

Leeds United expect Mateusz Klich to sign a new contract imminently and commit his long-term future to Elland Road.

LeedsLive understands the Poland international will underline his transformation under head coach Marcelo Bielsa with his signature on a new deal in the coming days.

Luke Ayling is also believed to be nearing an agreement on a new contract which should follow soon after Klich’s in a prolific spell of new deals at LS11.

Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas all confirmed their new contracts this month and director of football Victor Orta has pinned down two more of Bielsa’s favourites.

Klich’s current deal is believed to expire next summer, but may include a 12-month option for United, while Ayling’s certainly expires in 2021.

For the midfielder it marks a remarkable turnaround in his fortunes with a club he first signed for in the summer of 2017 from FC Twente in the Netherlands.

After only eight appearances under Thomas Christiansen, the last of which came on that fateful day at Newport County in January 2018, Klich was shipped back to the Eredivisie on loan.

While the 29-year-old turned heads on the continent again, it was not initially deemed enough to save him from the chop under Bielsa when he arrived in June 2018.

Ronaldo Vieira’s sale to Sampdoria on the eve of the new 2018/19 Championship season opened a door for Klich and he has never looked back.

Klich was the only man to start every league game last season and has continued that record into 2019/20 as a lynchpin for Bielsa’s league leaders.

The Pole’s signature will leave Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez as the remaining senior players with deals expiring at the end of this season.
