Exclusive:Match injury will keep St Mirren striker Kristian Dennis on the sidelines

St Mirren striker Kristian Dennis is set for a spell on the sidelines.

The former Notts County forward had been trying to build up his fitness, having not had a full pre-season since his move to Paisley.

But he sustained a heel problem in the 3-0 home defeat to Hibs last Saturday, which caused him to be replaced at half-time by fellow new attacker Lee Erwin.

And Express Sport understands the injury is likely to keep the 30-year-old out for between four to six weeks.

It’s a big blow for Jim Goodwin ahead of tomorrow’s game at Dundee United as he looks to get back to winning ways after consecutive losses to Hibs and Celtic.

He normally likes to have four front men to choose from.

And speaking on Dennis’ potential absence, Goodwin said: “It would be extremely disappointing.

“He didn’t get a great deal of pre-season when we signed him.

“We spent the last three weeks working hard on his fitness. He’s still probably a couple of weeks from being match fit.

“Unfortunately he picked up an injury on half an hour then tried to play through it until half-time when we had to make the change.

“It’s disappointing because we want competition and we’re back to three again.”
