EXCLUSIVE: Junior chiefs aim to finish current Junior Cup next season

Junior chiefs are hoping to complete the current Junior Cup next season – and they are prepared to wait until NEXT YEAR, Ayrshire Football News can exclusively reveal.

Six teams remain in the competition, with Beith and Pollok into the semi-finals and Auchinleck Talbot, Broughty Athletic, Darvel and Hurlford United still to complete their quarter-final ties.

But despite all league competitions being ended with immediate effect, Junior supremos seem desperate to finish the competition when football resumes.

If the plan does go ahead, it casts major doubt over next season's Junior Cup starting.

An email sent to clubs discussing their plans said: "At our most recent meeting of the association’s management committee, it was agreed that we should attempt to conclude this season’s Macron Scottish Junior Cup during the course of season 2020/21.

"It will no doubt be a challenge, however, with a willingness of all involved, it can be achieved – subject to when of course we resume football at our level.

"One question from the participating clubs that requires a decision is: who will be eligible to play in the remaining games should we proceed.

"Subject to the remaining clubs being in agreement, I would suggest that those players registered as and when the games proceed will be eligible, subject of course to the Scottish Cup Competition and Rules re. eligibility for semis and final.

"For the avoidance of doubt, any player who had played in the competition this season so far will be eligible if he subsequently signs for one of the remaining teams in the competition – the outstanding games being a standalone competition as such.

"I would welcome your views / comments and confirmation we should proceed on this basis if required."
