EXCLUSIVE: Huge boost for St Mirren as Ryan Flynn set to sign new deal

St Mirren have received a massive boost after persuading versatile star player Ryan Flynn to sign a new deal.

The former Sheffield United midfielder's contract was due to expire this month.

But the Buddies have convinced him to commit his future to the club and he is set to sign an extension this week that will see him remain at the Simple Digital Arena next season.

Delighted gaffer Jim Goodwin said: "It's a brilliant bit of business for us to get Ryan agreed to sign on for next season.

"He was having a great campaign last time out and was very unfortunate to see it curtailed by a serious knee injury.

"We're hopeful he'll come back stronger because he's Mr consistent for us.

"He's technically one of the most gifted players we have at the club and the fact he can play so well in midfield or at right back gives us options going forward too."

Despite picking up a cruciate ligament injury against Hamilton in February, Flynn still managed 27 games in all competitions in the 2019/20 campaign and impressed on numerous occasions.

St Mirren are expected to make an announcement on other squad members' futures this week, with fans facing an anxious wait to discover the fates of sought-after goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky and club captain Stephen McGinn.

Tony Andreu, Danny Mullen, Gary MacKenzie, Cody Cooke and Oan Djorkaeff's futures also remain in the balance.
