Exclusive: Ex-Arsenal manager explains why he wants Spurs to beat Liverpool in Madrid

Ex-Arsenal midfielder turned manager, George Graham, wants Tottenham Hotspur to beat Liverpool in the Champions League final.

If Spurs were to end their night in Madrid victorious then the Gunners would fall behind two of their fiercest rivals when it comes to winning the biggest prize in European club football.

Chelsea stunned Bayern Munich in 2012 to become the first London club to clinch the Champions League. Tottenham could become the second this season if they overcome Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to football.london at the Willow Foundation's Celebrity Golf Day following the Europa League final, Graham backed Mauricio Pochettino to make history.

He also explained why, despite his continued support of Arsenal, he has affection for Spurs.

In 1998, he crossed the north London divide to take charge at White Hart Lane and stayed at the club as manager until 2001.

Graham managed Leeds United between 1996 and 1998 after leaving Arsenal in 1995.

"I got on quite well at Spurs," he said. "We won the League Cup in the second season. The training ground was great. Lovely people.

"I enjoyed working with them. I won a lot more at Arsenal and played for Arsenal, but I didn’t have a bad time at Spurs.

"There was a lot of noise from the fans but you’ve got to take that.

"I think it’s going to be tough for them on Saturday. You look at them some games and they are great to watch when they are playing well.

"You just hope that they will be on their game and Liverpool aren’t so good. It’s a hard one to call."

Tottenham are set to be boosted by the return of Harry Kane to the match day squad while Pochettino has other options to call upon to either start or leave in reserve on the bench.

Last season, Liverpool were defeated by Real Madrid in the Champions League final and Klopp and his team will be hoping to go one better this year.

Spurs have never reached this stage of the competition before and will make history regardless of the outcome in Madrid.
