Exclusive: Bristol Rovers legend Chris Lines having medical at League Two club

Bristol Rovers legend Chris Lines is on the verge of sealing a move to Northampton Town, a week after his release at the Mem.

Bristol Live understands Lines is undertaking a medical at the League Two club who finished 15th last season under the management of Keith Curle.

Lines was among nine players released by Rovers last Tuesday after making his 500th senior appearance in the Gas' final league game of the season against Barnsley.

The 33-year-old was a regular under previous Rovers manager Darrell Clarke, after being brought back to the club for a second spell in 2015 to spearhead their promotion out of the Conference Premier.

However, Lines had fallen out of favour under Graham Coughlan after the Irishman replaced Clarke on a permanent basis in January, the 44-year-old admitting he wanted a team with more pace and power .

They may not be attributes central to Lines' game but the cultured midfielder will feel his technical passing game and vision can help guide the Cobblers into the promotion picture in the fourth tier.

Lines has spent the last week on a family holiday in Mallorca and is appearing on BBC Radio Bristol on Thursday as a guest on Geoff Twentyman's 'Having a Gas' show.

Meanwhile, Rovers have been linked with a move for out-of-contract AFC Fylde goalkeeper Jay Lynch.

According to HITC Sport , Lynch is also wanted by Plymouth Argyle, Bury and Peterborough United and could be set to leave Mill Farm after AFC Fylde lost in the National League play-off final to Salford City.

Rovers are certainly in the market for a new goalkeeper following the release of Sam Slocombe and Adam Smith and the end of Jack Bonham's loan agreement.

Alexis Andre Jnr, who has spent the season on loan at Truro City, is the only senior goalkeeper currently at the club but talks are ongoing with Bonham to bring the 25-year-old back to the Mem after he was released by Brentford.
