EXCLUSIVE: Boris Johnson arrives at Wirral mansion for Brexit talks with Leo Varadkar

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has arrived at a Wirral country estate and wedding venue for talks with the Irish Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar.

The ECHO filmed Mr Johnson's motorcade arriving at Thornton Manor this morning, as the two leaders meet ahead of the looming Brexit deadline.

There had been mounting speculation the meeting would be held in Liverpool but Thornton Manor has emerged as the choice of venue, with some suggesting Mr Johnson may wish to avoid the city to which he has previously been forced to apologise.

Tweeting yesterday, Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram - who was heavily involved in the Hillsborough Justice Campaign - said: "If Boris Johnson is in Liverpool this week – he should put time aside to, at long last, acknowledge the pain he caused as Editor of the Spectator, in publishing an article that smeared our city and the lives of 96 football fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough."

A line of cars swept in through the gates of Thornton Manor, a popular venue for weddings and other events, just after 11.30am. It is not know how long the talks are set to last.
