Exciting young Everton defender Lewis Gibson to sign new contract as future plan mapped out

Lewis Gibson is ready to sign a new contract with Everton.

Talks with the young defender have intensified over the past few weeks but an agreement has been found and Gibson will put pen to paper this week.

The 19-year-old will then focus on sealing a loan move for the remainder of the season before Friday’s deadline.

Gibson has been attracting interest from a host of clubs in the Championship, League One and in Europe and must now decide where to spend the rest of the campaign.

Discussions over a new deal, for the player signed from Newcastle in the summer of 2017, have centred around his pathway at Everton and the club’s plans for the talented centre-half.

And following a series of talks, Gibson’s future has been mapped out by director of football Marcel Brands.

A second loan move could materialise in the summer after which the teenager would return to the first-team fold under Carlo Ancelotti.
