'Exciting time' to live in Bingham as new leisure centre nears completion

Bingham residents say it is an "exciting time" to live in the town as a new state-of-the-art leisure centre nears completion.

Work commenced last year on the Bingham Arena and Enterprise Centre, which is part of a £16m project to bring a leisure centre, community hall and office space to the town on Chapel Lane.

People living in Bingham say the new development is good news for the area and should bring a number of benefits when finished.

Colin Connor, who lives in the town, said: "I think it's definitely good news.

"The leisure centre we have can't keep up with the demand sometimes, I feel, so even they might benefit from another one.

"We'll have more parking spaces as well and they'll use it for work, people having meetings and that sort of thing.

"That little industrial estate is very good to have."

The leisure centre will feature a six lane swimming pool with spectator seating and a teaching pool, as well as a fitness centre, spin and exercise studios, café and a community hall with a capacity for 300 people.

The adjacent Bingham Enterprise Centre will host 12 office lets for small and growing businesses over two floors that the authority says could create up to 90 jobs.

"We will definitely use it," said Emma Higby, 32, from Bingham.

"I think it should attract people here, too, which is good news for the businesses around here. We have the market and a lot of independent shops.

"They are building houses everywhere so it's nice to see that they are planning ahead and building things to go along with them as well."

Leader of Rushcliffe Borough Council Simon Robinson said in December: “It’s heartening to see a major project taking shape and on schedule for a wonderful new focal point for Bingham with leisure and office facilities the town can be proud of that have environmental priorities at heart.”
