Exciting teenage prospect says goodbye to Arsenal and signs for Newcastle United

Newcastle United are understood to have agreed a deal for Arsenal teenager Shaun Mavididi.

A two-year scholarship means the Academy have now added two new players to their set-up for the 2021/22 season after the arrival of Remi Savage from Liverpool.

The 16-year-old joins after a trial on Tyneside with the potential of a professional deal on the table at the end of his first two years, according to Football Insider.

Both signings join Matthew Bondswell who arrived at the end of last season after a stint with RB Leipzig.

United's Academy will have a new face at the top next term after the departure of Joe Joyce last season.

The Magpies are set to name Steve Harper as the new Academy director and the former goalkeeper has been overseeing signings alongside the recruitment team.

It remains to be seen whether Ben Dawson continues up at the first-team base after working well with Steve Bruce and his back-room team.

The Academy head of coaches also dovetailed well with Graeme Jones but Newcastle will unveil their new coaching line-up on July 5 when the squad returns for pre-season training.
