'Exciting potential' - Bristol Bears forward pens new contract extension

Jake Armstrong has signed a new contract at Bristol Bears.

The tighthead prop has penned a new one-yeaar deal at Ashton Gate, which will take him through until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

Armstrong joined the Bears in 2018 after making the Championship team of the season with Jersey Reds.

He made four appearances for the Bears last season after being hit with injury problems.

Bears director of rugby Pat Lam said the contract gives the side plenty of competition at tighthead prop, especially with new signings coming in.

He said: "Jake has been unlucky with injuries during his time at Bristol Bears, but has shown his exciting potential and an excellent, hard-working attitude.

"Because of these qualities, he deserves more time to show what he can do at this level for the Bears."

Armstrong is now back to full fitness after his injuries and says he knows the challenges that lie in wait as he tries to get back into the first XV.

He said: "I’m delighted to extend my stay at Bristol Bears and look forward to continuing to develop my game under Pat Lam and the coaches here at the club.

"This club is on an exciting journey and there’s a really tight knit group of boys here who have all bought into what we are trying to achieve.

"For me, now I’m back fully fit, I just need to keep working hard, improving my game, and compete for a place in a world class starting line-up."
