Exciting Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure transfers will improve Everton midfielder

Everton midfielder Andre Gomes will benefit should they complete deals for Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure and James Rodriguez as expected.

That is the opinion of David Prentice on the Royal Blue Podcast with Allan close to becoming the first major signing of the Carlo Ancelotti regime.

The 29-year-old Brazilian worked under Ancelotti at Napoli last season and both Doucoure and Rodriguez are expected to follow him to Goodison Park.

Gomes impressed during his first campaign at Everton on loan from Barcelona but suffered a horrific ankle injury during the draw against Tottenham Hotspur in November after making the move permanent last summer.

He completed an incredible recovery by facing Arsenal at the Emirates in February and was a regular in the side following the Premier League restart.

The Portuguese international struggled to recapture his best form but Prentice believes the expected midfield recruitment will inspire 'a better' Gomes.

"When he first arrived we were so excited about the quality he would bring to the midfield but the balance was wrong," Prentice said.

"He produced fitful performances because he wasn't really given a platform to express those skills. He was asked to bring elements that possibly were not natural to him.

"If he fits into the same midfield as two players who are - not water carriers, I don't want to call them that, because they're more than that - but he can do what he does best which is play forward passes into dangerous areas and open up defences.

"He can create more. He didn't do it often enough last season. When he first arrived at the football club we saw it a lot more.

"It's a knock-on effect. When we talk about these players it's not just about what they bring on the pitch, it's about what they bring to the training pitch, and what effect they can have on people already at Everton.

"Hopefully we will see a better quality Andre Gomes next season. It just looks like a better balanced unit. We don't know how it will work yet and how he will fit those players in but it feels like we will see a better Andre Gomes. That excites me."

Paul Wheelock also reckons the triple signing will send a message across the globe should Everton land an international superstar in Rodriguez.

"We've got an ambitious owner, an ambitious manager and an ambitious fan-base," he added.

"The supporters know how big this club should be - and is - but we have had a fair few mid-table finishes recently.

"Rodriguez is coming with a bit of a point to prove but everyone knows his quality. Some of these signings are capturing the imagination and hopefully that transmits to the wider footballing world that Everton are ambitious. It is really exciting."
