'Excitement' for leisure centre to reopen in Nottinghamshire village

Excitement is building in a Nottinghamshire village which is home to one of the county's leisure centres.

Residents living next to Bramcote Leisure Centre in Derby Road said there is "a lot of excitement" for it to reopen after the third lockdown.

The leisure centre has a swimming pool with slides as well as a gym and spa area.

Fahad Mansoor, 34, said he is planning to join the leisure centre to lose some lockdown weight.

He said: "I use the park here sometimes twice a day. I've lived in London, Birmingham and Dundee and this is one of the best parks I've been to.

"I've lived here for 12 years and I've heard the leisure centre is the best around here. People say it is amazing.

"I'm hoping it'll open by May. Until then I'll keep running."

Mr Mansoor said the area has been very quiet during lockdown.

He added: "In the first lockdown there wasn't even anyone in the park. Now it is getting busier."

June Stanley said: "It is very good for the area. I used to take my kids swimming there and now my granddaughter goes there.

"It's just across the road for me so it's great to have close by.

"There's always cars pulling in and out of it so it is quite busy."

Kathleen Crooks said: "There will be quite a lot of excitement when it reopens after lockdown.

"It’s good facilities and it is very well used.

"It's certainly an attraction for people living here.

"We just need everywhere to open now."

Another resident of Moor Lane, who did not wish to be named, said: "It’s a very popular centre. They've talked for a long time about upgrading it, but that has never happened.

"It would be good if they could do that. It's nice to live so close to it.

"We're very grateful to have it nearby."

A spokesperson at Broxtowe Borough Council said it is still in the process of conducting a leisure facilities strategy review in relation to the Bramcote centre.
