Excitement as Mansfield Chinese takeaway is set to expand into a restaurant

Residents have welcomed news that a popular but "tired" Chinese takeaway is set to expand its site and turn into a restaurant.

The Golden Bridge, on Nottingham Road, has received planning approval to redevelop its site and convert a first-floor flat into a restaurant seating area.

The plans, which were approved by Mansfield District Council earlier this year, will bring an external terrace to the upper floor and a "modern" restaurant and bar layout.

The popular outlet, which is located across from the busy Rushley pub and near the Tesco Express store, will keep its current car parking set up once the refurbishment is complete.

Plans for the development have been designed and put forward by Jackson Design Associates, on behalf of the Chinese takeaway company.

A spokesperson for the architects said: "[We] have recently gained planning approval for the extension and refurbishment of the ‘Golden Bridge Chinese Restaurant’, located within in a prominent area of Mansfield.

"The proposals feature a modern restaurant and bar to the existing ground floor, with the creation of a new first floor restaurant and external terrace.

"Elevationally, a new contemporary design with an aluminium standing seam curved roof will provide interest in the street scene and uplift the existing, tired, residential style front elevation.

"We look forward to seeing the project progress in the coming months."

Under plans submitted to the council, developers added that the expansion and renovation will also create jobs in the area once complete.

Residents in the area have welcomed the move, saying it is "positive" to see a business expanding.

Ryan Dawson, 29, who lives in Berry Hill, said: "I have used the takeaway quite a bit in the past as it's nearby, and I've always loved the food.

"I think it's really positive, it's nice to see a business thriving and expanding its service.

"When the restaurant eventually opens I'll definitely give it a try."

Colette Wright, 34, who was walking her dog along Nottingham Road, also believes it's exciting for residents.

She told Nottinghamshire Live: "It's in a pretty good location to be a restaurant, as you could go for a meal and then pop over to the Rushley for a drink.

"It's also surrounded by a lot of houses, so people can easily walk down for a meal.

"People might say it's going to be more noisy with customers sat on a terrace, but when does the Rushley make too much noise?"

"I think it's exciting."

Nottinghamshire Live has attempted to contact the Golden Bridge for further information about the plans.
