'Exchange it for the Champions League' - Man City fans accept Carabao Cup defeat

Manchester City fans took Wednesday night’s defeat to West Ham in the Carabao Cup as a positive, hoping the team can now focus on winning the Champions League.

City have dominated the league cup in recent seasons, winning the last four editions of the tournament.

But they couldn't make it fifth time lucky, going out on a penalty shootout after drawing 0-0 in normal time.

Phil Foden missed City's first spot-kick and Zack Steffen was unable to deny Said Benrahma as the Hammers made it five from five.

The loss to the Hammers on penalties is the first time City have lost in the competition since 2015, a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle United.

But instead of being down about the defeat, fans took to social media to look on the bright side of the result.

With one less competition to focus on, City fans said that the team can turn their attention to winning the one trophy that has so far alluded them.

Last season City made it to the final of the Champions League but lost 1-0 to Chelsea.

Being handed a tough group this season, City have won two of their three games comfortably but lost 2-0 to Paris Saint'-Germain.

They face Club Brugge next Wednesday having beaten them 5-1 earlier this month.
