Exchange Chambers shows commitment to the North as ten-year leases agreed

Exchange Chambers has shown its commitment to the regional bar after it agreed new ten-year leases in Manchester and Leeds.

The full-service set occupies 10,000 ft at 201 Deansgate, Manchester and 7,500 sq ft at Oxford House, Oxford Row in the Civic Quarter of Leeds city centre.

Exchange Chambers' chief executive, Jonathan I’Anson, said: “Agreeing new ten-year leases in both Manchester and Leeds demonstrates our confidence in the future of the regional bar.

“Moving forward, remote working will become increasingly commonplace at the Bar.

"Our decision to retain the same amount of space factors this in and allows for future growth.

"All our offices are also equipped with the latest technology platforms required for remote hearings.”

Exchange Chambers has 176 members, including 17 silks, across Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds.

The firm signed a ten-year lease for 12,000 sq ft at One Derby Square in Liverpool in 2015.

Senior clerk Ian Spencer has overseen Exchange Chambers’ progress in Leeds over the last decade.

He said: “Since opening our Leeds Chambers in 2010, we’ve developed every aspect of the business.

"Bringing on board quality barristers across a broad spectrum of practice areas and at varying levels of seniority has been the key to our progress so far.

"Our Leeds Chambers now has over 30 members across all the main practice areas such as crime, personal injury, commercial, insolvency, employment and regulatory.

"We’ve also branched out into some very specialist areas such as competition law.”

Exchange Chambers has adapted all its offices in line with Government led Covid-19 guidelines to ensure social distancing and hygiene precautions are implemented across all work spaces.

Mr I’Anson added: “Barristers, staff and clients can feel totally safe working or meeting in Chambers whenever they feel comfortable to do so.”
