'Excellent' Hucknall home goes on the market for just £135,000

House prices in Nottingham city are currently "substantially below" the UK average, according to one property expert. The same property commentator added that it is also one of the best performing cities in the UK for house price growth, according to current figures.

Richard Donnell, executive director at Zoopla said: "House price growth in Nottingham is currently sitting at 10.9% and it's currently one of the best performing cities in terms of house price growth in the UK - sitting above the likes of Manchester (9%), Leeds (9.2%) and Bristol (8.8%). This is largely driven by the relative affordability of housing stock in the city. The average house price in Nottingham is £195,600 - which is substantially below the UK average house price of £256,900."

So where does that leave those looking to buy their first home? Well, while the average property price is still a hefty amount of money to find if you're looking to get onto the property ladder, there are homes in the city and around the county that are more attainable, after all we are talking about 'average' prices in the figures above.

A property currently being sold in the county by JMS Sales and Lettings, for instance, has been valued at £135,000. According to the selling agent it "offers an excellent opportunity for either those looking to take their first steps onto the property ladder or those looking to make a shrewd investment to add to a rental portfolio".

Inside the two-bed terrace in Hucknall (Zoopla)

The two-bed in Hucknall, which is being advertised on Zoopla, includes a living room and a modern fitted kitchen - kitchen units are white with a dark worktop above. There are two bedrooms and a first floor bathroom. Outside, there's a courtyard-style tiered garden which is pebbled for low maintenance.

The agent says that viewing the house in West Terrace is "strictly by appointment only" and interested buyers should call JMS to book.

Hucknall is a self-contained town with a mix of housing and a range of facilities. It is famed for its links with Lord Bryon. The poet is buried in St Mary Magdalene Church in the Nottinghamshire town. For the latest Hucknall stories, follow the link.
