6060 Arts Space presents "Supernova", an exhibition that takes viewers into a psychological universe where they can move gradually through forces of attraction, memory, desire, conflict, fragmentation and renewal, from Thursday to Aug 29.
This is a major solo exhibition by George Varakorn Kongmark, aka George Kongmark, a Thai contemporary artist who uses the body, nature, memory and the experience of self-acceptance as the central languages of his artistic practice.
For this show, he approaches the human body not merely as a physical form, but as a miniature universe containing forces of attraction, desire, memory, fear and an enduring capacity for transformation.
The term "supernova" describes the moment when a star releases an immense amount of energy. Although the explosion may appear to signal an ending, the remnants of the star become the raw material from which new stars, planets and the fundamental elements of life may emerge.
This cosmic phenomenon reflects an internal human process. When emotions, memories and desires that have long been concealed reach a critical point, they may erupt and reveal themselves, propelling an individual towards transformation, self-understanding and the acceptance of what was once denied.
The exhibition features more than 60 works across a range of media including visual art, installation, video art, live performance and collaborative works created with invited artists and writers.
They are not presented as isolated objects. Instead, they operate together as a single system, resembling a constellation or a network of cosmic elements connected by invisible energies.
The exhibition is therefore not simply an exploration of the artist's subconscious. It is also a space in which viewers may turn inwards and examine their own internal universes.
The opening reception is on Saturday at 5pm. The accompanying public programme includes a talk with artists and writers on Aug 15, an art and healing workshop on Aug 22 and a Shibari performance and figure-drawing session on Aug 29, all starting at 1pm.
6060 Arts Space is on Pradiphat 21 and opens Monday to Saturday from noon to 8pm.
