Exam pass rates in South Ayrshire remain ‘broadly similar to 2020,' according to education chiefs.
Formal exams were cancelled for the second year running due to COVID-19, with grades based on teacher judgement.
Pupils were informed of their results in June, but final results from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) were delivered to students last week.
Across South Ayrshire schools, S5 pupils achieving one, three and five Highers ‘increased slightly by 1 or 2 per cent points’, whereas the number of S4 pupils achieving five National 5 level awards ‘decreased slightly by 2 per cent points’.
A council spokesperson said: “Despite the continued disruption brought about by the pandemic, across South Ayrshire the exam results at authority level are broadly similar to 2020.
“The percentage of young people in S5 achieving one, three and five Highers increased slightly by one or two percentage points.
“The percentage of young people in S6 achieving one Advanced Higher also increased slightly by just under one percentage point.
“At National 5 level, the percentage of young people in S4 achieving five awards decreased slightly by two percentage points.
“The percentages of young people achieving five National 3 awards or better and five National 4 awards or better, were almost the same as 2020.
“Having been informed of their grades in June, young people and schools should be commended for their achievements in what have been very challenging circumstances.”
