Exam board apologises after four pages left out of A Level test

A Level students have been issued an apology after opening their exam paper to find four pages missing. Students expecting to find questions about Shakespeare plays were left confused by the missing pages.

The paper should have included questions on Othello, The Tempest and Much Ado about Nothing, reports The Mail. The Welsh Joint Education Committee has now issued an apology.

The Association of School and College Leaders Cymru director Eithne Hughes said: "This English language and literature paper has let candidates down."

She added: "The WJEC can put in place some sort of mitigation for this error to recompense for those who suffered in terms of the exam but how do you compensate for loss of confidence and wellbeing?"

A spokesperson for WJEC said it was a 'question paper collation error', adding: "All examination answers will be considered carefully during the marking and grading process to ensure all students are provided with a fair qualification result."

The WJEC sent an email to exams officers which reads: "We want to reassure all centres and candidates that we have standard processes in place to account for such issues and to ensure that no candidate is disadvantaged.

"We will be contacting all centres to ascertain any impact this has had on candidates taking this morning's examination.

"Once we have gathered this information we will be able to advise you on the remedial actions we will put in place, including whether centres should apply for special consideration.

"Once again we would like to apologise for this error. This is a very rare occurrence and we are taking the matter very seriously. Our teams will be working at pace to investigate this issue."
