Exactly where you'll find today's 98 coronavirus cases as Kildare and Kerry see rise

A further 98 cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ireland this evening, up from 95 on Thursday.

Dublin's number of cases dipped to 24 while there was 13 in Kildare, eight in Kerry, six in Kilkenny, six in Limerick, six in Louth, five in Tipperary and the remaining 30 cases are in Carlow, Clare, Cork, Galway, Laois, Leitrim, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Waterford and Wexford.

Of the cases notified today;

  • 48 are men / 50 are women
  • 66% are under 45 years of age
  • 42% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case, and
  • Nine cases have been identified as community transmission.

Dr Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “As we head into another weekend, keep physical distance top of mind at all times. Have no more than 6 visitors to your home and keep 2m between you. Open windows and keep rooms well ventilated if possible.

“It’s important that we all keep our number of social contacts low while we focus on keeping our schools safe, continuing to resume healthcare services and ultimately protecting the most vulnerable from COVID-19.”

There are 17 Covid-19 patients in hospital, with three in ICU.

Meanwhile, the Government is remaining tight-lipped on when Ireland's "wet pubs" will be allowed open again.

There has been a huge drive from publicans to allow pubs without food open this month with Government Ministers saying they hope to have a plan in place soon.

The next decision on reopening is expected to be made on September 13 when publicans are hopeful of a concrete date.
