Exactly when the sun is going to come back to Liverpool

The sunshine is set to make a return to Liverpool.

After weeks of cloudiness, strong winds and plenty of rain, the sunshine will be making a welcome return to Merseyside in time for the weekend.

The ideal timing will see temperatures climb up to 15C on Saturday, July 11 which isn't as hot as recent heatwaves which baked the city but marks a definite change in the recent chilliness we have endured.

Saturday is expected to remain dry all day, with repeated sunny intervals.

The lowest expected temperature, according to the Met Office, will be 12C.

Friday is expected to kick-start the warmer weather and is due to look brighter with some sunny spells - though a few showers will persist.

Mainly dry and sunny spells are expected for the whole weekend which will also gradually become warmer.

But the Met Office has warned more extreme weather is on its way.

The extreme weather is a result of the planet continuing to warm.

The warming planet means the intensity, frequency and duration of extreme weather events such as heatwaves and heavy rainfall are expected to increase.

This will bring corresponding decreases in cool weather events along with changes to dry spells.

Dr Robert Dunn, of the Met Office, said: "Looking at the changing climate by studying the frequency of extreme weather events provides a different perspective on climate change, complementing other metrics such as annual average temperature rise.

"It is extreme weather events which make the impacts of climate change real for people, and these events also present the greatest shocks to human health and well-being, financial economies and of course, the biosphere."
