'Exactly the same' - Why Hull City boss wasn't completely happy with victory over Nottingham Forest

Hull City boss Grant McCann believes Nottingham Forest should have had a man sent off in his side's win over the Reds on Wednesday evening.

McCann saw his striker Josh Magennis - who scored earlier on in the game - sent off with 22 minutes remaining, setting up a nervy finale for the Tigers, who were just one goal to the good.

Hull would go on to see the game out, handing Forest their second consecutive defeat.

But while McCann has no complaints over Magennis' red card, he does feel as though Joe Worrall should have received the same punishment for his challenge on Jon Toral.

Speaking after the game, McCann said: "The biggest thing that disappointed me was the Josh Magennis sending off.

“If we’re going to give that as a red card then (Joe) Worrall should’ve had one in the first half for the tackle on Jon (Toral). It was exactly the same.

“I think they’re both red cards. Josh knows. He’s led with his foot and it’s caught Watson.  If you’re going to send him then you’ve got to be fair and consistent. That’s all we ask.”

The red card was Magennis' second of the season and he now faces a four-game punishment.

Speaking about how the Northern Ireland international felt after the game, McCann added: “He’s disappointed.

"He plays on the edge and I thought he was excellent. It’s frustrating that we’ll be losing him now for a few games because we want a consistent run from a forward who’s scoring goals.”
