Exactly how risky it is to go to shop, pub or gig according to SAGE

A study by SAGE, the body which gives the Government scientific advice on dealing with Covid, has revealed where and when you are most likely to catch the virus.

SAGE has looked at what activities - including shopping and going to the pub - carry the most risk.

According to the SAGE report people who go shopping once a week are more than twice as likely to catch Covid as those who get their groceries delivered, reports The Mail.

The data has been put together after examining the daily activities of 10,000 people in England and Wales at the end of 2021.

Shopping once a week increases your chance of catching Covid by 2.2per cent, the report says.

Playing sports outside increases your Covid risk by 1.36per cent - but SAgE says this may be down to the social activities linked to sports.

Going to the pub a few times a week and taking public transport both increase your risk of catching Covid by 1.3 per cent.

Other activities which increase your risk include eating indoors in a restaurant or café, going to work and going to the gym.

The study found no significant increased risk attached to going to the theatre, the cinema, a concert, a sports event, a hairdresser, a barber, a nail salon or a beauty parlor.

Eating and drinking outside at a pub, restaurant or cafe also carried no increased risk.

In terms of public transport buses were found to be riskiest, followed by taxis, then trains and then trams.

The study, called Virus Watch, has not yet been peer reviewed.

The scientists say there were low numbers of younger people taking part in the study.

The data is based on surveys asking people about their activities.
