Exactly how much you need to earn to be able to buy a home in Liverpool

A study has revealed how much people need to earn, on average, to be able to afford to buy a home in Liverpool.

Liverpool is an incredible city to live in, with a wealth of quirky shops, bars and restaurants alongside plenty of cultural offerings, stunning architecture and vast, impressive parks to lounge in.

Plus, it's relatively cheap.

New data from GoCompare has discovered the salary needed in cities across the UK in order to afford a property, revealing Brits buying a house in Liverpool would need to earn £32,485 a year to afford the average house price of £180,383 in the city.

This makes Liverpool one of the most affordable locations in the UK to buy a property.

In the UK overall, the new findings reveal the average cost of a house is £254,630, which would require a salary of £45,664 to maintain - a huge increase from the national average salary of £29k.

The study analysed 2020 house prices across the nation to find the most expensive and affordable locations to buy a property - and the salary needed to purchase a home in the UK's major towns and cities.

When comparing the standard property types of detached, semi-detached, terraced houses and a flat, it likely comes as no surprise that a detached house is the most expensive property to purchase.

It costs the average Brit £354,729, needing an investment salary of £63.8k - which means Liverpool is more affordable than the UK average.

For those looking for something more affordable than a house, a flat is the best option with an average price of £134,672, meaning Brits would need a salary of £24,253 to be able to afford it.

In Liverpool, a flat is much more affordable than a house, costing an average of £107,288 requiring a salary of £19,321.

A detached house in the capital costs close to a million, at an eye-watering £889,308.

Flats in London are also highly-priced, costing an average of £429,401.

For those with dreams of living in the big city, they'll need an average salary of £108,335 to buy a home.

For the more affordable flat, prospective owners would need a salary of £77,331.
