Exactly how hot the Met Office say it will get in Leeds this week

The UK is set to climb to a "dangerous" 34C this week as a heat alert is issued across the country.

A two-day heatwave is set to hit the country which could see parts of the south reach temperatures hotter than Portugal, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Cyprus. Friday could end up being the hottest day in June since records began.

Although, in Leeds temperatures are set to be slightly "cooler". The Met Office forecast predicts around 28C for the city - here's exactly how hot it will get in Leeds this week.

Leeds is set to experience some scorching heat over the two-day heatwave as temperatures follow closely to those expected in the south of the country.

Temperatures can expect to reach 23C today and Thursday, while on Friday they will shoot up to 28C by 2pm. On Saturday temperatures will be seen to drop to 17C following the rest of the country.

Here's the weather outlook across the region according to The Met Office:

Today:

Dry and mostly sunny, although some areas of cloud could make the sunshine hazy at times. Becoming very warm inland, but cooler near some coasts where sea breezes may develop from late morning. Maximum Temperature 25 °C.

Tonight:

A fine night is likely for much of the region with light winds and cloud probably clearing to give lengthy clear spells. Minimum Temperature 9 °C.

Thursday:

Thursday will be a hot day for most areas with bright or sunny spells, but sunshine will be rather hazy given areas of high cloud. Feeling cooler near some coasts. Maximum Temperature 26 °C.

Outlook for Friday to Sunday:

Hot and mainly sunny Friday, with risk of showers, especially later. Cloudier and fresher by the weekend with thundery rain possible. Mainly light winds but cooler near coasts.
