Exact time thunderstorms are due to hit the UK today as Met Office predict 11 hour storms

The UK has been experiencing a sweltering heatwave in recent days.

The scorching temperatures have reached 32C in parts of the UK, with plenty of brits taking the opportunity to get outside and onto the beaches.

However the fair weather is not due to last forever, as the Met office have released a sudden weather warning - predicting that bad storms could batter the country for up to 11 hours.

Brits up and down the UK should prepare themselves for heavy rainfall, floods and thunderstorms.

The warning will last from 1pm on Tuesday 20 July up until midnight and is set to affect many regions, including the East Midlands, the East of England, London and the south east of England and the West Midlands.

An amber warning for rain has been issued as different parts of England are set for nine hours of downpour (Met Office)

The Met Office have warned that the disruption will happen quickly and dramatically - and that it could really impair traffic.

Floodwater and strong winds should be expected to cause damage to some buildings, while some areas could see 30-60mm of rainfall in just one or two hours .

The weather warning for rainfall is being issued alongside a warning for extreme heat - this is the first time the Met Office have issued such a warning in the UK.
