Exact location of today's 499 coronavirus cases as seven counties record less than five infections

Ireland saw hundreds more coronavirus cases confirmed this evening, but some positive trends are emerging across the country.

On Friday a further 499 infections were announced, with eight people tragically losing their lives.

While case figures are still high, there has been repeated signals from health chiefs and politicians that the country is heading in the right direction in curbing the spread of Covid-19.

Earlier this week Health Minister Stephen Donnelly hinted that the country could enter Level Two restrictions once the lockdown ends on December 1.

But Tanaiste Leo Varadkar was more cautions as he said we will "very definitely" remain under the current measures until at least December 1, when they are due to be reviewed.

And Mr Varadkar said he is unable to provide any clarity on what restrictions will be in place if Level Five does end in December.

He told the Dail: “I would love to be able to stand up here and say that on December 1 we will move to Level 3 or 2 and give people the ability to plan their lives and businesses, but I am not in a position to do that."

There were still a high number of cases confirmed in Dublin and Cork, however a large number of counties showed very promising signs by recording less then five infections.

A breakdown of today's cases show 175 were in Dublin, 72 in Cork, 29 in Limerick, 26 in Mayo, 21 in Meath and the remaining 176 cases were spread across 19 other counties.
