Exact location of today's 324 Covid-19 cases as Donegal sees another surge in infections

Donegal was placed under level three restrictions on Thursday as cases skyrocketed in parts of the county again.

The latest figures from the Department of Health reveal 324 new cases of the virus, with more than half of those in Dublin again.

Three more people have tragically lost their lives.

And Donegal has seen a massive jump in cases again, with the incidence rate for the county currently at 122.5 per 100,000 people.

Within the county, the Lifford-Stranorlar area is particularly badly hit.

Donegal has 42 new cases today, up from 30 cases on Wednesday and 18 on Tuesday.

It is followed by Cork with 34, 13 in Monaghan, 12 in Kildare, eight in Cavan, six each in Limerick, Meath and Roscommon, followed by five in Wicklow, with the remaining 25 cases in 11 counties.

Acting chief medical officer Dr Ronan Glynn said: “Public health doctors are coming across more cases arising from people who are close contacts of confirmed cases and are not restricting their movements.

“Remember that Covid-19 is highly contagious and you can be infectious without symptoms."

From midnight on Friday, Donegal will be at level three of the Government's Living with Covid Plan for three weeks.

The Taoiseach said the situation nationwide has deteriorated over the last week.

Government and the National Public Health Emergency team are now "monitoring very closely" the situation in Louth, Waterford, Wicklow, Kildare, Cork and Galway.

The coronavirus death toll in Ireland is now 1,797 people, with 33,994 cases nationwide.

Six cases were de-notified, resulting in the adjusted figure of 33,994.
