Exact location of the 56 new coronavirus cases in Ireland as Dublin and Kildare see largest increases

The latest coronavirus cases are spread across 12 counties with Dublin and Kildare seeing the largest increases.

A total of 56 new infections were reported yesterday bringing the total to 27,313.

Out of these, 26 are in Kildare, 13 in Dublin and the remaining 17 cases are in Donegal, Galway, Kerry, Laois, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Westmeath and Wicklow.

Dublin has the highest total number of cases with 12,747 and Kildare has the second highest at 2,011.

Cork comes third with a total of 1,595 confirmed cases and Meath has the fourth highest number with 863.

No further deaths were reported yesterday but a total of 1,774 people have now passed away from the virus.

The National Public Health Emergency met yesterday to discuss the latest outbreaks and the recent surge in cases.

Cabinet are discussing their recommendations today.

More county lockdowns, a return to cocooning for the vulnerable and how to open schools safely are all on the agenda at the crunch meeting today.

After a major recent spike of cases, it is understood that NPHET told Health Minister Stephen Donnelly last night that stricter measures may have to be reintroduced.

Independent.ie reports that older people will be asked to limit their time outdoors and avoid congregated settings.

It's believed NPHET has also recommended that only six people from three different homes should be allowed meet indoors, while outdoor gatherings should be reduced to just 15.

People who can work from home are asked to continue to do so for the coming weeks.

No decisions were taken at the Department of Health last night on any specific moves and the crunch meeting today will see the three party leaders of the coalition, Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Green leader, Eamon Ryan, all have their say.
