Exact location of of today's 240 coronavirus cases with half reported in Dublin

The latest Covid-19 figures have been announced this evening and a number of counties continue to show concerning surges.

A further 240 cases were announced this evening bringing the total number of cases in Ireland to 32,023.

Meanwhile one more Covid-19 death was tragically reported this evening with the death toll now standing at 1,789.

Dublin remains the epicentre of the virus with 119 of tonight's cases reported in the capital.

Following behind Dublin is Wicklow with 19 cases and Kildare with 17 cases.

A breakdown of the rest of the cases show 16 are in Donegal, 15 in Waterford, 10 in Limerick, 8 in Cork, 6 in Louth, 5 in Wexford.

The remaining 24 cases are located across Carlow, Cavan, Clare, Galway, Kilkenny, Laois, Longford, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly, Tipperary, Westmeath.

Of tonight's cases:

  • 119 are men / 120 are women
  • 61% are under 45 years of age
  • 47% are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case
  • 44 cases have been identified as community transmission

Dr. Ronan Glynn, Acting Chief Medical Officer said of tonight's figures: “50% of today’s cases are in Dublin. We are now seeing a higher proportion of cases in older age groups.

“Act now to save lives. Limit your contacts as much as possible. Assume you and those you meet are infectious, keep your distance and do your part to keep others safe.”

The latest figures come as NPHET formally recommend that Dublin is upgraded to Level 3 of the 'Living with Covid' plan following a continued surge in cases.

The capital is already under slightly harsher restrictions than the rest of the country however more severe restrictions are likely to come this week in an effort to curb further spread of the virus.
