Exact location of 552 new virus cases in Ireland as number of infections jumps again

Ireland announced a further 552 cases of Covid-19 on Sunday, up from 416 on Saturday.

While the rise in cases may worry some, it is still a major drop from the daily number of infections that have been recorded in recent weeks.

Since Ireland entered a Level Five lockdown, there has been a steady drop in numbers, with many experts encouraged by the signs.

Speaking yesterday, the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said: "We have more to do but we are on the right track.”

Sunday's announcement brings the total number of cases in the Republic to 62,002, while the death toll now stands at 1,915.

Dublin again saw the highest number of new infections with 173, followed by Cork which recorded 86.

Limerick had 30, while the remaining 223 are spread across all other counties.

The new cases were split among 275 men and 275 women, with the average age being 36.

Of those diagnosed, 63% are under the age of 45.
