Exact date Liverpool's heatwave will come to an end after hottest day on record

Merseyside will bake in sweltering sunshine today as the UK's heatwave enters its hottest day.

The Met Office has issued extreme weather warnings for much of the country this Tuesday, with temperatures reaching a record breaking high of 39.1°C in Charlwood, Surrey, according to provisional Met Office figures. Liverpool also experienced its hottest ever day on Monday, as Liverpool Airport 's weather station recorded temperatures of 36C.

With the same temperatures forecast for the city again this Tuesday, many people will be asking when the heatwave is set to come to an end. Temperatures will start to drop as we head into this evening, but by 11pm it's still forecast to be 20 degrees.

In contrast to Tuesday's extreme temperatures, Wednesday will be considerably cooler, with highs of 18 degrees. Temperatures will be nearer to the seasonal average by Thursday, according to weather experts.

The Met Office forecast for the North West said: "Cloudier and much less hot on Wednesday with isolated showers, potentially heavy and thundery at times. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

"Brighter on Thursday with temperatures nearer the seasonal average. Largely dry on Friday, perhaps with a few isolated showers. Similar day on Saturday with bright or sunny intervals."

Elsewhere in the country, forecasters have issued further weather warnings for Wednesday. The South East of the country have yellow thunderstorm warnings in place from 1pm to 9pm tomorrow. It states that there is a risk of flooding and lightning strikes.
