Exact date and time we can next expect it to snow on Merseyside

Temperatures are set to plummet in Merseyside this week and more snow could soon be on its way.

Saturday's snowfall saw a light dusting of the white stuff fall in parts of Merseyside, with people taking to social media to share photos where they live.

It comes as forecasters warned the atmospheric conditions which led to the bitter ‘Beast from the East’ in February 2018 are forming again.

According to the Met Office it won't be the last we see of snow in the region this month, with more snow forecast to fall on Thursday this week.

It will be a cold start to the day on Thursday, January 7, with temperatures reaching just 2 degrees by 9am but feeling like -1C.

The forecast predicts it will be cloudy before changing to light snow by late morning, with a 50% chance from 12pm.

The Met Office said we'll see temperatures turn colder "than average", wintery showers and possible snow in the coming weeks.

Looking ahead for weather in Merseyside, it said: "Conditions are likely to turn more widely unsettled with a mixture of rain, sleet and snow for many parts of the UK.

"Overnight frosts and icy stretches are also expected with temperatures below average.

"By the middle of January conditions will probably begin to become a little less cold with the potential for periods of rain and strong winds."

Forecasters said: "During the middle of January unsettled conditions are likely to affect southern and central parts of the UK with drier weather expected for the north and west.

"Whilst generally remaining colder than average some milder interludes are possible in the south. Toward the end of the month colder conditions become more probable, this bringing an increasing chance of snow."
