Former Wigan Athletic boss Paul Cook is among the early favourites to succeed the sacked Phil Parkinson as Sunderland manager.
Parkinson parted company with the Black Cats after 13 months in charge at the Stadium of Light.
The former Bolton Wanderers boss leaves the club eighth in League One and two points from the play-offs.
According to early odds from bookmakers BetVictor, former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet and ex-Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley are among the two early favourites for the job with odds of 11/8 and 11/4 respectively.
But ex-Latics boss Cook, who left his post as Wigan manager at the end of July, is third on the list at present with odds of 4/1.
He is closely followed in the standings by ex-Watford and Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson at 6/1.
Outsiders for the job include former Bolton assistant manager David Flitcroft at 16/1 and ex- Salford City boss Graham Alexander at 25/1.
Legendary former Wanderers boss Sam Allardyce is also an outsider at 25/1, as is former Wigan boss Gary Caldwell.
